KL Rahul led India to a clean sweep against Zimbabwe in the three-match series. India won the series 3-0 ahead of their Asia Cup campaign which starts next Sunday against Pakistan. While he fetched marks for his leadership skills, Rahul did not take his chances with the bat. He will make a comeback for India in the Asia Cup 2022 against Pakistan in Dubai next Sunday.
KL Rahul scored 1 and 30 in the two innings that he batted in the series. He did not open the innings in the first ODI and India eventually won the game by 10 wickets. In his next game for India, he is likely to open the batting for India against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.
He Has No One But Himself To Blame: Ajay Jadeja On KL Rahul
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja was critical of Rahul for not making the most of his opportunities in the three-match series. He criticised him for not opening the batting in the first ODI as well.
“The only one who has probably gone home disappointed is the one who has fielded 110 overs and he thinks it’s 150. He didn’t get to bat enough and he has no one else to blame but himself – not choosing to bat the three times that you could have” said Jadeja.
The former Indian cricketer further hailed Shubman Gill and pointed him out as the biggest positive for India in the series. Gill opened the batting in the first ODI and batted at number three I the next two games scoring consistently.
“The biggest gain I think is Shubman, not just his batting but the versatility that he has shown. Even at No. 3, he has looked as comfortable. Shikhar Dhawan – good as usual, he is still doing what he did 10 years ago for you. Ishan Kishan – once he got in, he got run out. That’s not something you worry about so much” said Jadeja on Gill.
The young opener scored 245 runs in the three ODIs and won the Man of the Series award. He scored his maiden ODI ton in the final game against Zimbabwe. This is his second MOS award after he won it against West Indies for scoring 205 runs in the three-match series.
