Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw has reportedly failed the yo-yo test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The test was conducted along with several other cricketers, including Hardik Pandya who has passed quite comfortably.

Shaw scored less than 15, as per the report, falling well short of the required target of 16.5. Despite the lack of fitness, he may well end up playing in the league. There are also rumors stating that this is one of the reasons why he isn’t being considered for the national team.

The Delhiite has been in amazing touch and has performed consistently since last year. However, players like Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad are being preferred over the right-handed Shaw.

If Prithvi is not being repeatedly considered, then perhaps his fitness standards aren’t up to the mark, as in what is expected of a Team India player. These are just fitness updates. Obviously, it doesn’t stop Prithvi from playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL. It’s just a fitness parameter and not the be-all and end-all,” a source told PTI.

It has always been an issue for Shaw and his approach towards dealing with it will determine whether he can make it back into the Indian team. He has already made his debut across all three formats but has fallen out of favor quite tremendously.

The IPL 2022 season will be the perfect platform for him to address the issue and get back on the selectors’ radar. The season begins on March 26 and Delhi will play its first match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 27.
