The Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) season is less than a week away as teams are gathering around for the final preparation before the blockbuster tournament hits the ground running on Saturday (March 26). During the ongoing preparations, one player who has caught the eye of defending IPL champions captain MS Dhoni is Shivam Dube.
The Mumbai-based player who was bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been pouring praise on his childhood hero and highlighted the interaction he had with Dhoni.
Dube, 28, was in the centre of attraction during the IPL auctions in Bangalore last month as Rajasthan Royals (RR), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and CSK bid for him. In the end, the defending IPL champions managed to scalp him for 4 crores rupees. The player attracted interest from various teams and was seen in IPL colours of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) during the 2019-20 season RR in the 2021 campaign.
Shivam Dube Opens Up On His Interaction With MS Dhoni
“I think you can still see the goosebumps coming out because always I’m a big fan of my Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) and, especially CSK. I had a chat with Mahi bhai as recently as yesterday. He asked me to do a few things and I told him I’ll definitely do justice. When Mahi bhai asks you to do something, consider it done,” Shivam Dube said on his interaction with Dhoni.
The left-handed batter made his debut for the Indian team in November 2019 against Bangladesh in a T20I game and made his ODI debut against West Indies in December of the same year. With competition for places, Dube lost his place in the national team but has urged him to continue his progress for the franchise. His CSK side will have their work cut out as they try to defend their title in the upcoming season.
CSK kick-off their title defence on Saturday (March 26) against former champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The Dhoni-led squad will try to match Mumbai Indians, in regards to most IPL title wins if they win the competition this year.
