Delhi Capitals missed the playoffs berth in IPL 2022 as they lost their final group stage match to Mumbai Indians. Capitals’ loss was Royal Challengers Bangalore’s gain.

Delhi Capitals finished in fifth place in the table with 14 points. Had the Rishabh Pant-led side won against MI then they would have easily qualified in the playoffs on superior NRR against RCB.

Capitals had to deal with many COVID-19 cases in their camp during the league stage. They have also involved a no-ball drama with skipper Rishabh Pant and all-rounder Shardul Thakur being slapped with fines while assistant coach Pravin Amre was banned for a match.

Australian opener David Warner scored the most runs for the franchise with 432 runs in 12 innings while left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav emerged as the highest wicket-taker this year.

IPL 2022: 3 Most Memorable Encounters Of The Season For Delhi Capitals (DC)

Let us look at three of the best matches Delhi Capitals played this year in IPL 2022.

1. DC vs MI (March 27, Mumbai)

Rishabh Pant-led Capitals started their IPL 2022 campaign with a thumping over Mumbai Indians in their first match of the season.

After setting a target of 178 on the board courtesy of Ishan Kishan’s 81*, MI had DC on the ropes at 72/5.

But Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav stitched an unbroken alliance of 75 runs as Capitals cruised to a four-wicket victory against the five-time defending champions.

Capitals continued the trend of defeating Mumbai Indians in the first game of an IPL season for the 10th year in a row.

2. DC vs SRH (May 5, Mumbai)

This match garnered attention around the world as former SRH captain David Warner played his first game against the Orange Army after his unceremonious exit from the franchise in IPL 2021.

Warner saved the best knock for SRH as his ferocious unbeaten 92 off 58 balls powered Capitals to 207/3.

Warner posted his highest score of the season with the help of 12 boundaries and three sixes in an inseparable 122-run stand with Rovman Powell, who remained unbeaten on 67.

The Capitals restricted Sunrisers to 186 for eight with Khaleel Ahmed (3/30) and Shardul Thakur (2/44) were the picks in defending their total.

3. KKR vs DC (April 10, Mumbai)

If the SRH match was about Warner’s belligerent innings then this fixture was a testament for Kuldeep Yadav against his former team for benching him for the entire IPL 2021 and playing him five games in IPL 2020.

Kuldeep produced a match-winning performance, picking four wickets for 35 runs and helping Delhi Capitals clinch the game by 44 runs.

Kuldeep got the big wicket of KKR spinner Shreyas Iyer, who failed to pick up the left-arm spinner’s googly while coming down the track and Rishabh Pant removed the bails to complete the dismissal.

In the 16th over, Kuldeep got the wickets of Pat Cummins, Umesh Yadav and Sunil Narine to claim a four-for. KKR were eventually bowled out for 171 to lose their second match of the season.
