Chennai Super Kings endured an indifferent season after winning the title in IPL 2021. The defending champions at the start of the season ended ninth on the points table with four wins and 10 losses. In between a lot happened that highlighted the mismanagement within the franchise.

Ravindra Jadeja who was named captain ahead of the start of the season was asked to step down midway. MS Dhoni was reinstated as captain to revive CSK’s campaign. However, it was all too late by then and they only managed three wins under Dhoni’s leadership. The good news for CSK fans though is that Dhoni confirmed his participation in IPL 2023. However, they have a lot of work to do in between as they look to identify the core.

The left-arm seamer ended with 16 wickets, 11 of which came in the powerplay. He bowled with pace up at the start and got the ball to swing as well. He did not let the franchise feel the absence of Deepak Chahar who was ruled out of the season with a back injury. Next season he will pair up with the pacer from the other end.

Devon Conway

Conway made his presence felt at the top of the order by scoring over 250 runs in seven games including seven fifties. He brought a calming effect to the batting order and along with Ruturaj Gaikwad gave his team good starts. He will be an even more crucial member next year and the management will hope that he plays the entire IPL 2023 season.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Gaikwad has once again proved his importance for CSK at the top of the order. CSK persisted with him after a string of low scores at the start of the season, He then ended the season with 368 runs from 14 games with three fifty-plus scores. He is included in India’s T20I squad for the South Africa series and will hope to get his opportunity.
