Inaugural IPL champions Rajasthan Royals(RR) kick off their IPL 2022 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 29, in Pune. It is the fifth game of the season and the first game for both teams. They added 21 players to the squad along with the three players they retained ahead of the mega auction.
RR are placed in group A alongside Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals and the newcomers Lucknow Supergiants. The IPL 2022 will be a 10-team event with as many as 74 matches to be played across 65 days.
The Royals are looking to win their second IPL title after winning the title back in 2008. The RR management added some good players in the mega auction. Their squad looks well-rounded and balanced. Sanju Samson
Rajasthan Royals has opted to continue with Sanju Samson as their captain for the upcoming edition of IPL. Samson had a brilliant season with the bat last year. In 14 matches, he managed to score 484 runs at an average of 40.33 and a strike rate of 136.72. He hit one century and two half-centuries during the tournament.
However, despite his heroics, the franchise finished at the bottom half of the point table. Ahead of a new season, Samson will be key to the team’s fortunes and is a prime contender for the orange cap winner. Overall, Samson has 3068 runs in 121 matches in his IPL career. He has three centuries in his IPL career and would be looking to add more this year.
2. Jos Buttler
There is no denying the fact that Jos Buttler is one of the best batsmen in T20 cricket at present. He is counted amongst the most destructive hitters of the cricket ball. Buttler has been a vital cog for the team for the last few years.
Last year, he could only manage to play seven matches and scored 254 runs at an average of 36.28 and a strike rate of 153.01. This year, he is likely to play all the games for the franchise. Rajasthan Royals can reach the playoffs if Jos Buttler manages to have a great season with the bat.

3. Devdutt Padikkal
Not a lot of people would have forgotten how Devdutt Padikkal announced his arrival in the Indian Premier League. Making his debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2020, Padikkal scored 473 runs in 15 matches at an average of 31.53. He finished as the highest run-getter for the franchise.
The following year, he scored 411 runs in 14 matches at an average of 31.61. However, despite that RCB chose not to retain him for the upcoming edition. Rajasthan Royals have managed to buy his services and Padikkal is likely to open the innings for the team this year. He will be a player to watch out for and is a prime contender for the orange cap winner.
