IPL 2022: 5 Players From Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Who Can Win The Man Of The Tournament Award

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) face CSK in the first match of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on March 26. It is a rematch of the IPL 2021 final. KKR who lost the final has a chance to five one back to the four-time IPL champions.

The IPL 2022 will be a 10-team event with two new teams added to the IPL fold. KKR are placed alongside Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capital and Lucknow Supergiants with the Men in Purple being the fifth team in group A.

The franchise did some good work at the auction table roping in some quality players for the next few years. In this article, we take a look at five KKR players who can win the Man of the Tournament award.

Russell has been an impact player with KKR over the years. His best season for Kolkata was in 2019 when he scored over 500 runs with the bat and picked up 11 wickets with the ball. He won the Most Valuable Player award for the second time that season. If he has a similar season he can very well be a candidate for the Player Of The Tournament Award.

Sunil Narine

Narine has also previously won the MVP award twice (2012 and 2018). The mystery spinner has been one of the key players for Kolkata over the years and has performed richly in their success. He was retained ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction and will play an important role in this IPL season as well. Narine has bagged 143 wickets so far for KKR and is inching closer to 150 IPL wickets.

Shreyas Iyer

KKR bagged him for a whopping 12.25 crores and appointed him as the skipper of the side ahead of IPL 2022. Iyer is in good form recently having scored three back to back fifties against Sri Lanka in the T20Is. He will be a key figure in the middle-order for the two-time IPL champions. The franchise will expect him to score big runs and make a healthy contribution to his team’s success.

Varun Chakravarthy

The leg spinner was one of the finds of the IPL in the last two seasons. Courtesy of his exploits in the IPL, he earned his international cap for India and was a part of India’s T20 World Cup squad in 2021. Varun was retained by KKR ahead of the mega auction and will form a key combination with Narin in KKR’s spin attack. So far he has picked 35 wickets for the side in 30 games.

Pat Cummins

KKR added Pat Cummins for 7.25 crores after previously buying him for INR 15.5 crores in the IPL 2020 auctions. He is yet to prove his mettle for the side and this year could just be his year given the reputation he has made for himself in international cricket. Cummins is also elevated as the Test captain of Australia leading the franchise to raise expectations from him.
