IPL 2022 Auction: 3 Openers Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Can Target

Chennai Super Kings head into the IPL 2022 mega auction with a remaining purse of 48 crores. They retained Ravindra Jadeja (INR 16 crore), MS Dhoni (INR 12 crore), Moeen Ali (INR 8 crore), Ruturaj Gaikwad (INR 6 crore) in the retention window looking to rebuild a young team at the auction. However, they have been a team that have believed in the policy of horses for courses. Thus they may very well look rebuy some of the players whom they released.

CSK have 21 slots to fill up with seven overseas slots available. They will look to bag a few experienced bowlers and batsmen in that overseas quota of players. CSK last won the IPL in 2018 and will be looking for their fifth title in this 10-team event from here on. Faf Du Plessis

The franchise will be keen to buy back Faf given that he formed a terrific partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad at the top of the order for CSK. He ended as the second-highest run-getter of IPL 2021 with 633 runs. He was a part of their core leadership group as well. Given all these qualities of Faf, Chennai might look at him as their first choice-opener.

Usman Khawaja

Khawaja had an Ashes series to remember. He scored a memorable ton in Sydney to help his team win the Test. He then scored runs in the BBL and will bring some good form into the IPL 2020 mega auction. Khawaja played under Dhoni at the Rising Pune Supergiants. The Chennai Super Kings owners might just remember this very fact and look to rope him in at the auction.

Dawid Malan

Malan bats at number three in the England lineup generally. However, Chennai Super Kings can invest in him keeping in mind the near future. He can bat anywhere in the batting order and can guarantee you run. He did not get much of an opportunity with Punjab Kings but might just find his place with Chennai.

He is a solid batsman who can anchor the innings and play aggressive cricket as well if needed. Malan and Ruturaj can be an ideal batting combination given the left-right combination will also be taken care of.
