Delhi Capitals are one of the franchises who had to go a lot many players who formed their core for so long in the IPL. They head into the IPL 2022 mega auction with a purse remaining of 47.5 crores. They have the lowest remaining purse among all the teams and need to fill up 21 slots out of which seven are overseas slots.
Delhi Capitals retained Rishabh Pant (INR 16 crore), Axar Patel (INR 9 crore), Prithvi Shaw (INR 7.5 crore), Anrich Nortje (INR 6.5 crore). However, they had to release a big chunk of their core. They will look to bag a few of those players in the upcoming mega auction for sure. In this article, we will take a look at three openers they can target.
IPL 2022 Auction: 3 Openers Delhi Capitals (DC) Can Target
Shikhar Dhawan
Given Dhawan’s contribution to Delhi since 2019 and the kind of consistency he has shown for the franchise, he should be one of the first few players they should target in the IPL. He scored 1726 runs in the last three years scoring 12 fifties and two hundreds in the meantime. IF they can buy him back, he can fill a big part of that core given his experience of playing in the IPL.
Delhi Capitals is led by a young captain in Rishabh Pant and Dhawan’s experience in guiding the young players in the squad will be an invaluable asset.
Aaron Finch
Mitchell Marsh
Marsh is very much in the form of his life. He was the Man of the Match in the T20 World Cup final as he took Australia to a win. He has scored runs against West Indies and Bangladesh when the rest of the batters struggled to get going. He can bat anywhere in the top four and can also play the role of a finisher.
The only issue with Mitchell Marsh is that he is injury prone and missed a few IPL seasons including IPL 2020 and 2021 due to injury concerns. If he promises to be fit throughout the tournament, there will be many teams including Delhi who will look to get him in.
