IPL 2022 Auction: 3 Openers Mumbai Indians (MI) Can Target

Mumbai Indians will enter into the IPL 2022 mega auction will a purse remaining of 48 crores. They retained Rohit Sharma (INR 16 crore), Jasprit Bumrah (INR 12 crore), Suryakumar Yadav (INR 8 crore), Kieron Pollard (INR 6 crore) in the retention window. Rohit who led the side to five IPL titles will continue to lead the side. However, they had to release several players due to the strict retention rules.

Mumbai Indians have 21 slots to fill in out of which there are seven overseas slots. They would ideally look at four overseas batters and three bowlers or vice versa in the upcoming mega auction. Rohit Sharma will open the batting for the side and the franchise will be on the lookout for a few more experienced openers. Matthew Wade

Wade will be a good option for Mumbai Indians as a fellow opener with Rohit Sharma. The southpaw has plenty of experience of playing good quality T20 cricket. He is a regular in the BBL and is an attacking opener at the top of the order.

He played a cameo to help Australia beat Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021 semi-final. He is a keeper as well and thus can fulfil two roles at a time. Mumbai needs a wicketkeeper as well and Wade can play both roles perfectly.

Shikhar Dhawan

Dhawan is one of the more experienced Indian openers who will be a part of the mega auction. He has played for Mumbai in the past and the franchise should keep an eye on roping him as well. He has had 500 plus runs in the last three IPL seasons.

Overall, he has scored 1726 runs in the last three years scoring 12 fifties and two hundreds in the meantime. Rohit and Dhawan have been opening together since 2013 in international cricket and know each other’s game very well.

Quinton De Kock

De Kock is one of the players Mumbai had to release due to the strict retention rules. He had 500-plus runs in IPL 2019 and 2020 and was the highest-scoter of the franchise in its title-winning season of 2019. He too was a member of their core group and the franchise will be keen on getting him back as well. He is another wicketkeeping opener and a run-bank for Mumbai.
