Rajasthan Royals have been the perennial underachievers in the IPL. Ever since winning the inaugural IPL season, they did not have too much look back on the campaign. Time and again they have invested heavily in players who did not produce the results expected of them. Here are they again looking to rebuild their squad on the back of Sanju Samson (INR 14 crore), Jos Buttler (INR 10 crore), Yashasvi Jaiswal (INR 4 crore).
The IPL 2022 auction will be held the next weekend in Bengaluru with teams fighting it out to rope in the best of players. Rajasthan Royals have a purse remaining of 62 crores. The Royals have 22 slots to fill up with seven of them being overseas players.
They have a settled opening pair of Buttler and Jaiswal. However, they would look to add some quality backup. In this article, we will take a look at three openers they can target in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Shai Hope
Hope has been the best batsman for West Indies across formats in the last two years. He has registered himself for a base price of 50 lakhs. He can be a budget but for the franchise and can fulfil two roles of an opener and a wicketkeeper.
He has been amongst the highest run-getters across formats in international cricket. While the other franchises might not be interested in buying him, Hope can be a good addition to the Rajasthan Royals squad.

Liam Livingstone
Livingstone was with the Royals before they released him ahead of the mega auction. They can buy him back at the auction knowing his exploits as an opener. He has shown his class as a batsman in the BBL and the England county cricket. Ideally, the Royals need to persist with him at the top of the order. He can also bowl some useful leg-spin, which strengthens his case.
Nitish Rana
Rana has played for KKR and Mumbai Indians in the past and has proven to be a utility cricketer. He can open the innings and also bat in the middle-order. To add to that, he can also roll his arm over if and when the team requires him to do so. He should be among the list of Indian batsmen who might fetch big bucks in the IPL 2020 mega auction.
