IPL 2022 Auction: Five Indian Batsmen To Watch Out For In The Mega Auction

The IPL 2022 mega auction will take place on February 12 & 13 in Bengaluru. The BCCI announced a final list of 590 players who will go under the hammer at the mega auction. The list was trimmed down from an initial list of 1214 players announced. The IPL 2022 auction will be a 10-team event with to new teams coming into the scene. 

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said that they are looking to stage the IPL 2022 in India itself. Mumbai and Pune have been identified s the two venues as the board plans to host the entire IPL in the state of Maharashtra. 

Out of the 590 players, there are 370 Indian players and 220 overseas players. Moreover, the list comprises 228 capped players and 355 uncapped players. In the overseas category, Australia has the most 47 players followed by West Indies with 34 players and South Africa with 33 players. 

Meanwhile, there will be plenty of talented Indian batsmen who will be available at the auction. They have been previously associated with franchises for whom they have proved their worth in gold. Shikhar Dhawan 

Shikhar Dhawan tops the list of five batsmen to watch out for. Since joining the Delhi Capitals, the southpaw has taken his game to a different level. Since 2019, Dhawan has scored 500-plus runs in every season taking his tally to 1726 runs in the last three years scoring 12 fifties and two hundreds in the meantime. Dhawan provides a solid opening option at the top and he also has the potential to lead a side as well. Keeping all these traits in mind, Dhawan is expected to fetch a high price at the auctions.

Shreyas Iyer

Iyer changed the face of Delhi Capitals as an IPL side since joining the side. He took the side to their first IPL final in 2020 besides leading the side with a certain attitude and demeanour. The Mumbai-lad also was amongst the highest-run-getters for the side before the franchise decided to part ways. 

There are reports that Kolkata Knight Riders might go big behind him at the auction and they are seeing him as a potential choice for captaincy. Iyer has won 21 matches out of the 41 that he led Delhi Capitals losing 18 of them. He has maintained a win percentage of 53.65. A solid middle-order batter and a good fielder to boost his credentials. Shreyas Iyer will be a hot property in the IPL 2022 mega auction. 

Ishan Kishan

Kishan is the third player to watch out for in this elite list. He was released by Mumbai Indians ahead of the mega auction. This now gives other franchises to rope in the pocket-size powerhouse. He scored 516 runs for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020 becoming the first player to score over 500 runs by an uncapped player back then. 

His IPL exploits helped him to make his India debut in white-ball formats and now he is a much more experienced player than he was two years ago. Kishan can bat anywhere in the batting order and a wicketkeeper to boot. For teams looking for an Indian keeper-batsman, Kishan will be the perfect fit. Age is on his side as well to be seen as a long-time investment.

Devdutt Padikkal 

Another southpaw who has impressed one and all, Devdutt Padikkal can as a long-time investment as well. He won the Emerging Player of The Year award in his debut season in the IPL scoring 473 runs. He played a few attacking innings for Royal Challengers Bangalore who had to let him go due to the strict retention rules. He scored 411 runs in IPL 2021.

He is now out in the open market. Several franchises will be vying for him keeping in mind that he is an Indian opener who can be groomed in due course. He is just 21 years of age with a bright future in prospect both in IPL and national cricket.

Nitish Rana

The Delhi cricketer concludes this list of top Indian batters to watch out for. Nitish Rana can open the batting and also bat in the middle-order. He can also change gears quickly as per the situation of the game. 

To add to his batting skills, he is a handy off-spinner who can bowl at any stage of the innings if required. In 60 matches for KKR, Rana scored 1383 runs with nine fifty-plus scores. Overall in 77 IPL games, the southpaw has scored 1820 runs at an average of 28.44 and a strike rate of 132.46. He can be a dark horse at the IPL 2022 mega auction
