Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal revealed that Rishabh Pant was yearned to have pace bowler Avesh Khan in the team.

Avesh snapped 24 wickets from 16 matches at an economy rate of 7.37 in IPL 2021 to end up as the leading wicket-taker of the team last season.

In multiple of his interviews, Avesh had credited Rishabh Pant, who led the Capitals for the entire season. Avesh thanked Rishabh for backing him and giving him enough matches to play.

Pant also considered Avesh as his go-to bowler during crunch situations but the franchise retained the wicketkeeper-batter along with Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje.

Delhi Capitals did attempt to bid for Avesh Khan at 8.75 crores but lost him to Lucknow Super Giants, the new franchise in the league for a whopping amount of INR 10 crores.

Avesh Khan went way beyond our budget: Parth Jindal

Jindal opened up that Pant was very keen to have Avesh in the team but the franchise couldn’t cross their budget limits to rope in the Madhya Pradesh pace bowler.

“I have been in touch with Rishabh, he is also really happy with most of the squad. Although he did really want Avesh Khan, we tried but again it went way beyond our budget but I think we have a very good squad that can challenge for the playoffs and hopefully go better,” Jindal said in a video posted on Delhi Capitals official Twitter handle.

I think we have a very good balance: Parth Jindal

Delhi Capitals made a total of nine purchases on the first day of the IPL 2022 mega auction. The team roped in Australia’s T20 World Cup-winning duo of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh as their best deals of the day.

Yeah, I think, very satisfied [how the squad has shaped up till now]. I think we have a very good balance. We filled up most of our starting XI spots, we have a little bit of work to do going into tomorrow especially in the back-ups and making sure that we have a very good and solid squad.

“But overall I think we have some really really sensational players to compliment the four retained players,” Jindal mentioned.

Delhi Capitals are yet to win the IPL title despite making the cut in the playoffs for the last three seasons in a row.
