IPL 2022: Didn’t Capitalise On Very Good Base, Expresses CSK Coach Stephen Fleming After Loss Against GT

After the defeat to Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming said that his side couldn’t underwrite in the last five overs. CSK could manage only 45 runs off the last 6 overs with 8 wickets in hand.

David Miller’s unbeaten 94 and Rashid Khan’s flashy knock assisted Gujarat Titans in overcoming Chennai Super Kings by 3 wickets in their IPL 2022 match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium here on Sunday.

Batting And Bowling At The Death Was Not Upto The Mark: Stephen Fleming On Where CSK Fall Behind

“There were a lot of moments in the match that one could over analyse, but the two contributing factors were an outstanding innings from David Miller and a very good cameo from Rashid towards the end.

The other aspect that was notable was the last five overs in our innings they bowled well and we didn’t capitalise on what was a very good base. There were some key moments throughout, but that was the two areas – the last five overs with the bat and the last 5 overs when they batted,” said Fleming in a post-match press conference.

CSK could only manage to score 44 of their last 5 overs while giving away 62 off the last 5. Rashid Khan smashed Chris Jordan for 25 runs in the 18th over. Jordan also failed to defend 13 off the last over.

“It’s really a hard one. We were in the game and we were in control with the bat and the kind of start we had, we were in really good shape. So, losing games from there is very hard to take but they played really well and took the game away from us,” he added.

Somebody From The Current Squad Will Replace Deepak Chahar: Stephen Fleming

CSK is presently playing without their star pacer Deepak Chahar, as he had to miss this season of IPL, because of injury. Stephen Fleming said that the franchise is searching for somebody from within the team to replace the pacer.

“We are looking for someone. We have got some talent within our squad. We are in a must-win situation so we have been really conservative with our selections. We would like to see how we perform under pressure and look for someone from our side,” said the head coach.

Coming to the match, Miller’s thrilling inning of 94* was all around joined by stand-in skipper Rashid Khan’s rapid knock of 21-ball 40 as Gujarat pursued the target 0f 170 with a ball left.

This is the fifth victory in six matches for Gujarat Titans, while it is the fifth defeat in six games for Chennai Super Kings. GT is right now on the top of the points table of the Indian Premier League 2022 with 10 points while CSK is simply above winless Mumbai Indians with 2 points in their basket.
