Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener Shikhar Dhawan has been flying under the radar in the IPL 2022 season, with most of his performances going unnoticed. He has scored 381 runs in 11 matches for PBKS, including 3 half-centuries so far.

Dhawan being highly underrated is a recurring occurrence in the Indian cricketing fraternity. As elaborated on by former Team India head coach, Ravi Shastri, Dhawan misses out on the praise as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma generally hog the limelight.

I call him a gun player because, in this country, most of the accolades have gone to Virat (Kohli) and Rohit (Sharma). This man (Dhawan) has been a serious player, you know, right in between them when he has been fit and he deserves all the accolades.

6000 IPL runs, 200th (IPL) game, Man-of-the-Match, finishing it off in style and like he said he has started advising youngsters now… and I know Shikhi. He might be calling them and playing the flute, I hope he plays the flute for a long time,” Shastri was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

He is not talked about as much as other players – Harbhajan Singh on Shikhar Dhawan

Even former Indian spinner, Harbhajan Singh, came to the defense of Dhawan, stating that his good performances aren’t given enough attention. Dhawan recently became only the second player after Kohli to score 6000 runs in the IPL.

Shikhar Dhawan deserves praise as he has scored over 6000 runs. He is not talked about as much as other players and some are given too much attention. He is an IPL legend himself. He has scored runs against all the opposition and proved himself,” Harbhajan mentioned.

Although Dhawan has been having a good time at the top, PBKS has struggled as a team and they are languishing in 8th place with 5 wins in 11 matches.
