Kolkata Knight Riders picked up Shreyas Iyer for 12.25 crores at the IPL 2022 mega auction. They were bent down on roping the former Delhi Capitals player which they managed to do at the auction.
With Iyer at the helm, KKR is aiming to go one step better than what they did in IPL 2021. Along with Iyer, the franchise added experienced players like Pat Cummins, Tim Southee and Ajinkya Rahane to their squad. Alongside Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, these players now make the core of the side.
Shreyas Iyer had a special mention for Venkatesh Iyer who was one of the four retained players by KKR. Iyer said that the southpaw is a good team man who always talks about winning and oozes positivity. Both of them played together in the T20I series against West Indies.
“Obviously he’s done great as an opener last year for KKR, that will be at the back of the mind. He’s a team man. I’ve seen that on the field. He always talks about winning. That’s the type of character we need in our team, one who is ready to go out there and show that relentless,” he said on Venkatesh Iyer.
The KKR skipper further spoke about Venkatesh’s batting position. He opened the innings for KKR in the second leg of IPL 2021 and scored 370 runs in 10 matches. Iyer was tight-lipped on the betting position of his fellow KKR teammate.

“We have not yet decided his batting position. We are yet to get out of quarantine and have chats with coaches and management. I had a brief chat with him during our stint for Team India, he’s very flexible in terms of whatever position we put him into play,” said Shreyas in a virtual interaction on Saturday.
