Liam Livingstone was one of the most expensive players in the IPL 2022 mega auction. He was in fact the fourth-highest player overall after Punjab Kings roped him in for 11.55 crores. Punjab did a pretty good job at the auction table accumulating a strong squad with reputed players.
Liam Livingstone in conversation with Sports Tak, opened up on his batting position for Punjab Kings. He has played very few matches in the IPL and yet to make a name for himself but this season could well be his big break in the IPL.
“I know where I am going to bat anyway. I am going to bat in the middle-order so it would be stupid of me to say otherwise. I’m probably going to bat at 4 or 5. The team is always bigger than the individual and you’ve got to fit into a role which the team needs you and I think Punjab Kings are going to need me in the middle order role so that’s where I am focused. I haven’t even thought about anywhere else. The team is really important and I’m excited; hope I can finish off games while batting second or post a big total batting first,” Livingstone told Sports Tak on his batting position.
Livingstone has played only nine matches in the IPL so far in which he has scored 113 runs. Despite his poor numbers in the league, the Kings broke the bank to rope in the English cricketer. He also spoke about the price tag pressure after being paid a huge sum of money by the Punjab franchise.
We Are Picked As Cricketers, Monetary Value Irrelevant: Liam Livingstone
“We are picked as cricketers to come in and do our jobs, which is to score runs and take wickets and catches. So I think the monetary value is irrelevant. I’ve played in the last couple of years for not a lot. The IPL is the biggest tournament in the world and I’m just really excited to get going” Livingstone added.
Punjab Kings open their IPL 2022 campaign against RCB at the DY Patil stadium on March 27.
