Suresh Raina went unsold on day 1 of the IPL 2022 mega auction. A total of 74 out of the 97 players were sold on day 1 with Ishan Kishan recording the highest price of 15.25 crores by Mumbai Indians. The auction dynamics was in full swing as the franchises weighed in on every player they added to their franchise.

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has expressed his views on various Indian players including Suresh Raina who went unsold on day 1 of the mega auction. Not even CSK went behind their veteran player. He played 11 of their 12 IPL seasons. He was part of the Gujarat Lions for two seasons when CSK were suspended from the tournament in 2016 and 2017.

“For me, it was a sad sort of moment of the auction. But I feel he will have a chance tomorrow. Some team will go for him. But not too sure for Raina as he hardly plays any cricket,” Harbhajan said.

He went onto say that even if CSK eventually buys him, he will not be the same player as he was once was for the side. Raina produced consistent seasons of over 400 runs or more for CSK during his peak. However, after IPL 2020, he has not been a regular member of the franchise.

“Of course he has been a very consistent member of the Chennai Super Kings and known as Mr. IPL. It is so sad when you see Umesh and Raina not getting a bid. Maybe CSK might buy him tomorrow but it will not be the same thing as you want to get picked in the first round itself. It was a sad sight of the IPL. This is how you reflect on time. When Raina was at his best he wasn’t just CSK’s top pick but all the other teams as well. 13-14 years later there are many other players now and Raina might find it difficult to make the squad as well” Harbhajan added saying.

  3. Ambati Rayudu – 6.75 crore
