IPL 2022: Mumbai Indians Captain Rohit Sharma Reveals Team's Opening Combination For The 15th Edition Of Tournament

The Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma has revealed the opening combination of the five-time champions for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, which will be the 15th edition of the cash-rich league.

Rohit Sharma and co. will begin their Indian Premier League 2022 campaign on March 27 and they will take on Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Rohit has confirmed that he will be opening the innings with the young wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan in the upcoming marquee tournament.

“I will open the batting. I’ve been doing that in the past so I’m looking forward to open with Ishan,” Rohit responded to a query from Hindustan Times.

Also, the Head coach of the Mumbai Indians, Mahela Jayawardena, was happy to have Rohit and Ishan as openers. He said:

“I think Rohit and Ishan is a good combination up top and Ishan is also a wicketkeeper, and there are very few who can bat in the top-three.”

Notably, wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan was the most expensive player at the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction, which was held in Bengaluru, as he was bought back by the Mumbai Indians franchise for INR 15.25 crore.

Star India and Mumbai Indians middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav had suffered a hairline fracture on his thumb during the 3rd T20I against West Indies on February 22 and since then he has been in rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Giving an update on the middle-order batsman, the Mumbai Indians skipper said that he can’t give confirmation on the availability of Suryakumar.

“Surya is at the NCA at the moment. He is recovering well. He will be here soon and yeah, I can’t give you his availability right now… whether he will be there to play the first game or not, but yeah, we are trying to get him here as soon as possible once we have the clearance from NCA,” Rohit pointed out.
