IPL 2022: Mumbai Indians Might Release Kieron Pollard, Feels Aakash Chopra
The Mumbai Indians experienced their worst-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) season this year, finishing bottom with only four wins in 14 games under Rohit Sharma’s leadership. The five-time IPL champions were the first club to exit the season after a spate of losses, and they were never able to recover.
While there were many factors contributing to MI’s poor season, Kieron Pollard’s poor play increased to the team’s troubles. The top all-rounder only scored 144 runs during the season and was eventually dropped from the playing XI. Pollard had been kept for Rs 6 crore by MI, who had banked their hopes on him.
We Have Seen The Last Of Kieron Pollard: Aakash Chopra
It’s unclear whether he’ll be retained in the team’s plans next year after being dropped from the starting XI. Former India and Kolkata Knight Riders opener Aakash Chopra has made a bold prediction on Pollard’s IPL future after analysing MI’s season. Pollard, according to Chopra, may be released by MI.
“I think we have seen the last of Kieron Pollard. ₹6 crore will be released if they don’t retain him. I think they can let Murugan Ashwin (₹1.6 crore) go as well. I am not sure about Jaydev Unadkat (₹1.3 crore) but they can definitely say bye-bye to Tymal Mills (₹1.5 crore),” the former cricketer said on his YouTube channel.
Pollard has always had MI’s full support, and it will be interesting to see if he receives it again. Pollard will be auctioned again if he is released. The former West Indies captain just announced his retirement from international cricket, and it’s unclear whether he’ll play in the T20 competition. By the commencement of the Caribbean Premier League in 2022, a clear picture of Pollard’s playing career should be available. MI will benefit from Jofra Archer’s availability next year if he is healthy. The franchise shelled out Rs 8 crore for him.
