IPL 2022: Predicted Opening Pair Of Gujarat Titans (GT)

Gujarat Titans added 20 members in the IPL 2022 mega auction to go with the three players they had picked before the auction. The Titans picked Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan for 15 crores each and Shubman Gill for 8 crores as their three draft picks.

Some of the key players that the team picked during the auction were Mohammed Shami, Jason Roy, and Lockie Ferguson. Lockie Ferguson was the team’s top pick in IPL 2022 auction at Rs. 10 crores. The franchise got all their bases covered ahead of the mega auction.

Jason Roy pulled out of IPL 2022 due to bio-bubble fatigue. The England opener in a statement thanked the franchise for picking him and promised to follow and support them from back home. In his statement, he also said that this is the time he would utilise in spending time with his family and reflecting on his game before a long international season.

Gill is one of the most promising young cricketers going around in India. KKR parted ways with the youngster despite him scoring nearly 1500 runs in 58 games for the franchise. That allowed Gujarat Titans to rope him in and slot him in as one of the specialised openers. Gill was being talked about as a potential candidate to lead Kolkata Knight Riders in the future and thus KKR releasing him ahead of the mega auction came as a surprise to many.

Matthew Wade

In the absence of Jason Roy, Matthew Wade is the best option as the other opener for Gujarat Titans. He proved his potential by playing a few handy knocks for Australia in the T20 World Cup including a cameo against Pakistan. Wade, on the other hand, will also help the franchise maintain the left-right opening combination.

Wade had earlier spoken about batting at any position the franchise asks him to. Various cricket experts are also saying that the Wade-Gill combo is the perfect opening pair for the Titans.
