IPL 2022 Retention: 5 Most Economical Buys
5. Ruturaj Gaikwad- Rs. 6 Crore
Ruturaj Gaikwad was retained by Chennai Super Kings for Rs. 6 crores. He was picked as the 4th player in the retention. Gaikwad gave an astonishing batting show in IPL 2021. Smashing 635 runs in 19 games at an average of 45.35, he ended as the highest run-getter in the tournament.
The right-handed batsman also slammed 4 half-centuries and 1 unbeaten century. If Gaikwad went into the auction, he could have attracted more than Rs. 6 crores as he is just 24-year-old and a superb future investment for any team.

4. Anrich Nortje- Rs. 6.5 Crore
Delhi Capitals retained Anrich Nortje for Rs. 6.5 crore. Anrich Nortje is a regular member of the South Africa team in international games. In IPL 2021, he scalped 12 wickets in just 8 games at an outstanding bowling average of 15.58 and economy of just 6.16.
With his ability to bowl 150 kph deliveries and low economy rate, Nortje is a big asset for any team in bowling. He could have attracted a bid of more than Rs. 6.5 crore if he went into the mega auctions.

3. Sunil Narine- Rs. 6 Crore
Sunil Narine is the 3rd player in this list. Sunil Narine was retained for Rs. 6 crores by Kolkata Knight Riders. Interestingly, players like Venkatesh Iyer and Varun Chakravarthy, who have far less experience than Narine in both IPL and international cricket, bagged an expensive deal than him.
Narine has been part of KKR since his debut edition in 2012. The right-arm spinner scalped 16 wickets in 14 games in IPL 2021 at an average of 22.56 and an economy of just 6.44. Sunil Narine could have attracted costly bids if he was part of the IPL 2022 mega auction.

2. Kieron Pollard- Rs. 6 Crore
Kieron Pollard bagged a deal of Rs. 6 crores by Mumbai Indians. Kieron Pollard is the captain of the West Indies national team in the limited-overs format. He is also the vice-captain of Mumbai Indians in IPL.
However, he was paid less amount than players like Jasprit Burmah and Suryakumar Yadav, who were paid Rs. 12 crore and Rs. 8 crores respectively during retentions. If the West Indies all-rounder was part of the auctions, he would be in the eyesight of every franchise that could have offered him much more price.
1. Glenn Maxwell- Rs. 11 Crore
Glenn Maxwell was retained by RCB for a massive sum of Rs. 11 crores. However, if we look at his records in previous auctions, this is an economic deal for the Australian batsman. For instance, the right-handed batsman was bought by RCB in IPL 2021 auction for Rs. 14.25 crore. Hence, he is being paid less in IPL 2022 than in his previous season.
If Maxwell was part of the auction, he would have bagged a deal of more than Rs. 11 crores. After his impeccable batting show in IPL 2021 where he scored 513 runs in 14 innings with 6 fifties, he would have invited a massive price in the auction.
