IPL 2022: Rishabh Pant Opens Up On His Evolution As A Cricketer With Delhi Capitals (DC)

Rishabh Pant has been playing for Delhi Capitals since IPL 2016 and it is since 2018 that he became an impact player for the franchise. As it turned out, he was given captaincy responsibilities in the second half of IPL 2021 and he did a fabulous job taking his team to the knockouts of the season. He was retained ahead of IPL 2022 and announced as a full-time captain with the franchise.
Rishabh Pant has achieved a lot of success at the international level at a very young age. A lot of the credit goes to Delhi Capitals and how they have groomed him in the last few years. Pant along with a few other Indian cricketers are seen as potential captaincy candidates in the future and him leading the IPL franchise is his preparation for future commitments with the national team.
Speaking to TOI, in an exclusive interview, Rishabh Pant spoke about his association and evolution as a player with the IPL franchise and his learnings about the game while his stay with the club.
“When I first came to the Capitals, I got a lot of confidence after meeting the owners, support staff. In the last 3-4 years, we have changed a lot as a team. I wanted to become the best player of the franchise first. I started learning from everyone around me” Pant said.
Rishabh Pant further said that playing with world-class fast bowlers very early in his IPL career has helped him understand the nuances of the game early and helped him reach his career at the point he is today.

“When I came to the IPL setup, we had gun fast bowlers like Pat Cummins, Shami, Rabada and Coulter-Nile. I told myself if I can play these prime international bowlers, I will get confidence. All these things have helped me reach the place where I am today. I added all the learning to my game but I never wanted to change my style of play” Pant further added.
Pant was retained alongside Prithvi Shaw, Anrich Nortje and Axar Patel ahead of IPL 2022. The side will kick off their IPL 2022 campaign against five-time champions Mumbai Indians on March 27.
