Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin feels that South African batter, Faf du Plessis, was the right choice to become the RCB captain but he also felt that Virat Kohli is on a temporary break and might be appointed as captain once again next year.
Kohli had confirmed that the IPL 2021 season would be his last as the skipper but he will remain a loyal player of the franchise. Ahead of the mega auction, he was retained by RCB as well. They ended up buying du Plessis in the auction and proceeded to make him the captain.
“Faf is more like towards the end of his IPL career. Maybe, he has two-three years left with him. And they have made him the captain, which is quite a good decision. He brings in a lot of experience and in fact, he has himself said that we can see a bit of MS Dhoni’s touch in his captaincy skills.”
“I feel that since Virat Kohli has undergone a lot of stress as a captain in the last few years, this year will be like a break for him and they might appoint him as a captain next year is my guess,” Ashwin said in a video during a conversation with Prasanna Agoram, the former performance analyst for South Africa.
“The IPL is a tough tournament” – Ravichandran Ashwin
Ashwin felt that the preparation for an IPL season is always tough as there are a lot of things to consider going into the league. It is the most competitive T20 league in the world and every player dreams of making an appearance.
“The IPL is a tough tournament, there are a lot of variables leading into every season. Dew, pitches, the opposition, you name it and there’s a variable that can impact a game in different ways and you’ve got to be ready at all times.”
“However, for me, going into an IPL season is always exciting. The IPL gives a window of experimentation, something which has enabled me to come out a richer cricketer, irrespective of the results,” Ashwin further mentioned.
