Mumbai Indians (MI) gave a debut to their young South African star Dewald Brevis as they faced off against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 14th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) on April 6, 2022, in Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
Dewald Brevis was the highest run-getter in the ICC U19 World Cup 2022 in West Indies recently and impressed one and all. He was bought by the Rohit Sharma-led franchise for INR 3 crores in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
MI also brought in Suryakumar Yadav for Anmolpreet Singh, while Tim David made way for Dewald Brevis. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first. KKR also made two changes, with Pat Cummins coming in for Tim Southee and Shivam Mavi making way for Rasikh Salam Dar.
Dewald Brevis Hits A No-Look Six To Varun Chakravarthy
Umesh Yadav was once again in the thick of things, as he removed Rohit Sharma for 3 runs as Sam Billings took an excellent catch running backward, after the MI captain top-edged a pull shot in the 3rd over of the innings.
Ishan Kishan battled hard for 21 balls but fell to Pat Cummins for 14 runs hitting one four in his knock. Dewald Brevis then showed off his skills in his 19-ball 29 run knock. He hit 2 fours and 2 sixes and one of the sixes proved to everyone that young South Africa was special and should be in contention for bigger things.
On the first ball of the 8th over, Varun delivered a ball coming into the pads of Brevis. The right-hander used his wrists to good effect and hit the ball over mid-wicket for an effortless no-look six. This was a shot of someone with exceptional talent and it showed in his shot-making and decision.
However, Varun got his revenge as he got him stumped by Sam Billings on the 5th ball of the over and sent him back into the pavilion.
