Punjab Kings won their 4th game of the season as they beat Chennai Super Kings by 11 runs here at Wankhede Stadium on Monday. Their captain, Mayank Agarwal was all praise for his bowlers, especially Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh.

The win was largely led by the bowling effort of the PBKS bowlers as they defended a par score against a longish batting lineup of CSK.

We Would Like To Win More Tosses: Mayank Agarwal

Winning a toss is not in the hands of a captain and PBKS have been unlucky in that regard as they have lost 7 tosses out of 8. Mayank Agarwal in the post-match presentation said that he would like to win more tosses. But despite losing 7 tosses they have won 4 games out of the 8 they have played.

When asked about the team’s performance against CSK, he said, “I thought Arsh bowled exceedingly well. I must credit him. Throughout the season, he’s stood up in tough moments and he’s bowled the tough overs. He’s always put his hand up and said, ‘Gimme the ball! So he’s been great for us. Even Rabada was fantastic, to get [Gaikwad] and Rayudu at that time was very crucial. I can’t really pinpoint, but I would say these two with the ball really changed the game towards us.”

On being asked how he tried to utilise the longer side of the boundary as a captain, he said, “Not just as a captain, but as a team you need to be really smart and use the longer side of the boundary. You want the opposition to hit as many runs as possible on the longer side because there’s more chances of them getting out so that does make a difference. As a batter, you need to pick the balls that you can really get out there because you know if you mishit or even if they middle it, you may get the result you want.”

This win has put PBKS to 6th on the points table. They would hope that going ahead Mayank Agarwal himself finds some form with the bat.
