RCB vs MI: Credit To Suryakumar Yadav To Get Us To 150 But It Wasn't Enough - Rohit Sharma
Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma praised Suryakumar Yadav but he insisted that they knew the total of 151 wasn’t a par-total against RCB on a surface that was decent enough to bat on at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
Suryakumar scored 68 and helped MI to go from 79/6 to a competitive total of 151/6. However, RCB managed to chase it down with 7 wickets remaining and more than an over to spare.
“Definitely not a 150 pitch, Surya showed us if you bat sensibly, you can get more than what you got. Lot of credit to Surya at least to get us to 150, but we knew that it wasn’t going to be enough. We took our chances with the ball but they batted quite sensibly,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
“Just the combination that we felt would be ideal on certain pitches” – Rohit Sharma
Rohit further added that MI opted to go in with only two overseas players as they felt it was the right combination. It was only the third instance of a team fielding only two overseas players in an IPL match.
“(Two overseas players) Just the combination that we felt would be ideal on certain pitches and certain opposition. We wanted to strengthen our batting, unfortunately, we had few overseas guys who were unavailable, so we wanted to get the best from whatever we had.“
“Just got 26, I wanted to bat as long as possible, but unfortunately I got out at the wrong time. We were hitting that partnership, we just got off to a 50-run partnership, got out at the wrong time, that is something that’s hurting us a little bit,” Rohit said.
