IPL 2022: Remains To Be Seen How Sarfaraz Khan Transforms His Ranji Form In The IPL - Wasim Jaffer
Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer is excited to see how the youngster, Sarfaraz Khan, performs in the upcoming IPL 2022 season. Sarfaraz is part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) squad after being picked up for INR 20 lakhs in the mega auction.
Sarfaraz has been in tremendous form in the Ranji Trophy. In this season, he already has scored of 275,63,47, and 165 playing for Mumbai. The 24-year-old will be hoping to carry over this form into the IPL.
“I have high hopes from Sarfaraz Khan this time. He has played at numbers 5, 6, and 7 mostly. But, this year we might get to see him bat at 3 or 4, which I feel is a better position for him.”
“In Ranji as well, he bats at 4-5 and that position suits him. It remains to be seen how he transforms his Ranji form in the IPL. He plays some unusual shots in the T20 format, so he has that game,” Jaffer said in a conversation with ESPNcricinfo.
“I would like to see Virat at No. 3” – Wasim Jaffer
Speaking about the RCB squad, they have a dilemma now that Faf du Plessis is part of the team. He will be opening for the franchise while Virat Kohli may have to drop down to No.3, as per Jaffer.
“I also feel that Faf and Virat are similar kinds of players so Virat at No. 3 and Maxy (Glenn Maxwell) at No. 4 seems a better combination. Anuj Rawat, he’s a left-hander as well, bats in the powerplay for Delhi, opens in the [Syed] Mushtaq Ali [Trophy] – we could see him opening the batting and I would like to see Virat at No. 3,” Jaffer mentioned.
The season gets underway on March 26, Saturday, when Chennai Super Kings takes on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
