Sanju Samson’s batting order adjustment against the Delhi Capitals did not excite former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar.

The Delhi Capitals raced through Sanju Samson’s side by 8 wickets on Wednesday, handing the Rajasthan Royals their fourth loss of the 2022 Indian Premier League season.

RR lost the early wicket of Jos Buttler (7) after being summoned to bat by Rishabh Pant; as has been the pattern with the Royals’ batting order this campaign, Ravichandran Ashwin was elevated following the early setback, and the off-spinner surprised with a half-century in 38 deliveries.

Nevertheless, the Royals’ captain Sanju Samson’s appearance at the crease was delayed due to a 41-run stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal (19) and another 53-run stand with Devdutt Padikkal (48).
In the 15th over of the game, Samson stepped in to bat and, in an attempt to boost the ante, was bowled cheaply for only 6 off four deliveries.

‘If you’re no.4, you come into bat at no.4 or 3’: Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar, the former India skipper, and cricket legend was not happy with Samson’s decision to bat at No. 5 in the game.
“He has the potential to be a strong hitter, but he won’t work himself by coming down the pecking order to bat. If you’re batting fourth, you’ll bat fourth or third. Accept accountability. “Now, see what occurred,” Gavaskar said on-air after Anrich Nortje fired Samson.

“He discovered that, because they didn’t have the start they desired, he had to start playing shots right away.” And he died in the process,” Sunil Gavaskar continued.

The Capitals chased down the target with 11 balls to spare after reducing Rajasthan to 160/6 in 20 overs, due to a magnificent 144-run stand between Mitchell Marsh (89) and David Warner (52*). The Royals are in third place on the table with 14 points after their third loss in four games.
