Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Umran Malik took 2 for 27 against KKR including their skipper Shreyas Iyer. Malik bowled intelligently against the Knights and made use of his pacer to his advantage. SRH skipper Kane Williamson was also very clever in using his overs against the KKR power-hitters. Malik was able to keep both Iyer and Andre Russell quiet.
Umran Malik bowled close to 150 kmph against KKR and took the wickets of Iyer and Sheldon Jackson. Together with Natarajan, they took five for 64 in their 8 overs. Former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif was very impressed with what he saw of the pacer in IPL 2022 so far. He suggested that the BCCI needs to try out Malik before the T20 World Cup to be played in Australia later this year. He said that Malik can be played in the Asia Cup this year to groom him for the T20 World Cup in Australia.
“After the IPL, they will start preparing for the international matches again. We have an Asia Cup and then the World Cup. They will have to try him out in one of them. On the bouncy pitches of Australia, he can easily take out the Asian batters, whether they’re from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, or whoever India plays. Maybe the Aussies could play him,” Latif said on his official YouTube channel.
He further said that batsmen these days are not used to playing bowlers with pace over 150kmph which gives Malik the edge.
Umran Malik Can Surprise Batsmen With His Pace: Rashid Latif
“He could be a very useful bowler there. Because batsmen aren’t used to facing such fast bowling nowadays. Most fast bowlers have now dropped in in terms of speeds; you look at Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins… Shaheen Afridi swings the ball really well but he clocks in the range of 145 kph. Haris is there but his bouncer isn’t as effective as he is with his fuller length,” said Latif.
SRH have now won three on the trot after losing their first two games of the season. Hyderabad is one of the six teams on six points on the points table at the moment.
