SRH vs PBKS: There Were A Lot Of Positives For Us This Season - Mayank Agarwal
Another IPL and another season of what-ifs for Punjab Kings. They finished the season at the 6th spot on the points table with 7 wins and 14 points. One more win would have seen them through to the playoffs. But it wasn’t to be as despite winning their last encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday they failed to make the cut. Despite that Mayank Agarwal was happy with the win in the last game of the season.
Most cricket experts thought that Punjab Kings had gathered one of the best squads after the mega auctions as they got the likes of Liam Livingstone, Shikhar Dhawan and Kagiso Rabada in the auction. Although all these players performed, the team botched up important moments in the game when they were on top.
Mayank Agarwal who took over from KL Rahul as the captain for the season couldn’t add much value with the bat as he struggled throughout the season. His move to bat in the middle order proved futile as well. Even in this game, he got out for just 1 run.
We Rue The Fact That We Could Not Get Two Back To Back Wins: Mayank Agarwal
In the end, PBKS would take positives that the move to send Bairstow top of the order worked in the end for them. Livingstone’s and Rabada’s form too would give them confidence going into the next season.
After the game against SRH which Punjab won rather comfortably, Mayank Agarwal said, “There are a lot of positives for us. The way Livingstone batted, Dhawan played well. Bairstow since the time he started to open. If we go out there and play the kind of cricket we play, we can do well in the next season. We couldn’t stitch two back-to-back wins. We lost wickets in a cluster, and that at times derailed us. We have played an aggressive brand of cricket overall. We are going to sit and discuss now after the IPL.”
Punjab would hope that they could rectify their mistakes and come back stronger next season.
