Winning the man of the match award could be the best reward for a player who has performed really well in the match and it has been a tradition over the years in the game including IPL. The performance can be in any field including the bowling, batting or fielding department.

It is important to reward a player when he has performed well as it motivates him to achieve more and produce similar kind of performances consistently. With the amount of pressure involving in the IPL, it is not easy to bag the man of the match award and here are 5 players with the most man of the match awards in IPL history.

5 Players With Most Man Of The Match Awards In IPL History:

David Warner – 17

The Australian opener David Warner has a good record in IPL with 5247 runs in 145 IPL games so far. He has been a standout performer for the Sunriser Hyderabad over the years and has captained the team to a successful campaign in 2016. He is certainly one of the marquee players of the IPL.

Despite the mediocre form in last season, Warner finished the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 548 runs in 16 games. Warner has had a lot of impact on the team’s performance and guided the team home over the line on most occasions. He has won 17 Man of the Match awards in his IPL career and stands fifth on the list of most man of the match awards in IPL history.

The legendary wicket-keeper MS Dhoni has enjoyed a lot of success in the IPL and has led his franchise Chennai Super Kings to victory in three editions already. Chennai Super Kings won the IPL title in 2010,2011 and 2018 and  Dhoni has been a huge contributor in those matches.

Dhoni has played 206 IPL games so far scoring 4632 runs at an average of 40.6. His strike rate has been near the 135-mark, but he can smash it around in the death overs. He has been one of the best finishers in the format and is nearing the end of his career now. Dhoni has also won 17 Man of the Match awards and is equally placed in the fifth position alongside David Warner in the list of players with the most man of the match awards.

The Indian limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma has been the most successful captain in the IPL history with five titles under his belt so far. He has been a very good performer for Mumbai Indians over the last decade and has been excellent at the top of the order for Mumbai.

He has played 203  games so far and has scored 5324 runs in his IPL career at an average of 31.3. He can hit the long sixes and one of the best timers of the cricket ball in the world. He is third on the list of most man of the match awards in IPL history with 18 to his name and also leads the same chart as an Indian.

The West Indian big-hitter Chris Gayle, who is one of the legends of the T20 format and he holds most of the records in the format including the highest individual score of 175 not out. His consistency has been unbelievable and has hit a wide range of sixes in any part of the world.

Gayle has played 135 IPL games scoring 4833 runs at an average of 40.6. His strike rate is nearly 150 and he can demolish any bowling attack on a given day.

No grounds are bigger for him and he is currently playing for the Punjab franchise in the ongoing season. He has won the man of the match award 22 times and is second on the list of most man of the match awards in IPL history.

AB de Villiers’ recent performance against Kolkata Knight Riders earned him the 24th Man of the Match award in his IPL career as he scored a blistering 76 run knock off just 34 deliveries. He has been by far, the best death overs batsman in the tournament history and has won a lot of games for his side on his own.

He is one of the most consistent players in the tournament and he has played 172 games scoring 4974 runs at a strike rate of 152.7. Despite retiring from international cricket, he has been in really good touch and is eager to return to international cricket if the Nation needs him. He stands first on the list of man of match awards in IPL history.
