Former England captain Michael Vaughan feels there can be a possibility of Kolkta Knight Riders skipper Eoin Morgan dropping himself in final against Chennai Super Kings.
KKR defeated Delhi Capitals by three wickets on Wednesday in Qualifier 2 in Sharjah to reach their third final in IPL history.
Rahul Tripathi guides KKR to IPL 2021 final
Despite being in a commanding position in their chase of 136 against DC, KKR slipped from 123/1 to 130/7 by 19.4 overs.
KKR needed six runs from two balls to win and they found a finisher in Rahul Tripathi who smoked Ravichandran Ashwin for a six over long-off in the penultimate ball of the game.
KKR has never lost a final in IPL 2012 and 2016 and will be up against MS Dhoni & co in the quest for their third title.
Eoin Morgan and KKR team management have to make a call based on Dubai pitch: Michael Vaughan
The only concern KKR will have regarding their team will be playing all-rounder Andre Russell, who sustained a grade 2 hamstring injury during a league match against CSK.
Since then Russell hasn’t player any game for KKR including both of their knockout matches against RCB and DC.
Vaughan feels that if Russell is deemed fit he could replace Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan or Morgan would sacrifice his own place in the team.
“They have to make a call on the pitch because when they played at Sharjah, they got used to the pitch, knew the conditions, and stuck with the team. Dubai might be a different proposition, it might be a different surface. If Andre Russell can bowl four overs, they may turn to change Shakib,” Vaughan told Cricbuzz.
“You know, they may think that a left-arm spinner (won’t be required). Again, we’ll talk about Eoin Morgan (chuckles). I personally wouldn’t drop him, but do not be surprised if he drops himself) because I just know the character that he is. He will do what he feels is best for the team,” he added.
KKR will lock horns with CSK in IPL 2021 final on Friday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
