Mumbai Indians all-rounder Krunal Pandya has somehow come into focus as Deepak Hooda exhibited power-hitting at its best for the Punjab Kings against the Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. With Deepak Hooda facing suspension from the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this year following a spat with Krunal Pandya, users on Twitter reckon it was the right kind of incentive for the all-rounder.

The cricketing fraternity raised eyebrows when Deepak Hooda came to the crease at number four after Chris Gayle departed since it was the right time for Nicholas Pooran to arrive. But the spin-bowling all-rounder shut all the noises as he took the Royals’ bowlers to the cleaners without sparing anyone. Hooda added 105 off only 47 balls along with his captain KL Rahul to steal the momentum from the opposition.

By the time Deepak Hooda reached his half-century, he had six sixes under his belt and brought his fifty off 20 balls. The 25-year old hit the ball in all parts of the ground and at one point, slammed Chetan Sakariya for three boundaries in a row, including off a new ball.

The Baroda-born hard-hitter perished for 64 off 28 balls in the 18th over, hammering four fours and six sixes, holing out to Riyan Parag at long-on. Hooda’s innings was the bedrock of Punjab Kings’ sparkling innings that ended at 221-5, backed up by KL Rahul’s 91. Debutant Chetan Sakariya snapped figures of 4-0-31-3.
