Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Eoin Morgan was happy with the way his side performed against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The match went down to the wire and CSK snatched a last-ball win to guarantee a spot for them in the playoffs.

For KKR, the defeat doesn’t completely dent their chances to make it to the knockouts but it certainly dealt them a body blow. They had the match in the bag on a tricky wicket but faltered at the final hurdle. CSK needed 26 runs in the last two overs but Prasidh Krishna bowled a poor over where he conceded 22 runs.

That left just four runs to defend off the last over. Sunil Narine managed to make a match out of it and it was down to one off the last ball. Deepak Chahar managed to sweep over the infield and complete the win. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, the losing captain, Morgan said:

It was a hell of a game, first and foremost. Both teams played some exceptional cricket. CSK managed to get over the line but it went right down to the wire. It was a hot day, the guys fought hard and I don’t think I have a lot of complaints today.

“Impressed with how Varun and Ferguson bowled today” – Eoin Morgan

Morgan was quite happy with the bowler’s performance. CSK was cruising at one stage but the KKR bowlers pulled it back quite well. Morgan also praised Ravindra Jadeja, who turned the game on its head by taking Krishna apart in the penultimate over.

Talking about Jadeja, the whole tournament has an abundance of international talent and some top-class cricketers all around. Pretty impressed with how he goes about. Also impressed with how Varun and Ferguson bowled today, it’s all about the match games for them and it gives them the confidence,” Morgan added.

The win took CSK back to the top of the table while KKR remained firm in the fourth spot by virtue of their better net run rate.
