Rajasthan Royals (RR) opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal was a happy man after he scored a blazing fifty to guide his team to a thumping victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday. He got the autograph of former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni, to top off an excellent night for the youngster.
RR was set a tough target of 190 on a pitch that was better suited for T20 cricket. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a brilliant century, his first in the tournament. Jaiswal then set the stage alight during the run chase with a stroke-filled 50.
He got to the landmark in just 20 balls, the second-best for an RR batsman after Jos Buttler’s 18-ball half-century. The knock was studded with six fours and three massive sixes, and it propelled RR to their highest-ever powerplay score (81) in the IPL.
“I was thinking about looking at the wicket first. But we were chasing 190 so I assumed the wicket must be good for batting. I then started trying to capitalize on the loose deliveries and gave my team a good start which helped us chase 190. I’m also happy I got the signature of MS Dhoni on my bat after the match,” Jaiswal said in a video posted on IPLT20.com.
My gameplan was to continue the momentum built in the powerplay – Shivam Dube
The other protagonist with the bat for RR, Shivam Dube, stated that he was looking to build on the excellent start they received courtesy of their openers. Dube was brilliant with the bat, scoring his maiden fifty en route to guiding the team home.
“When I walked in to bat, we had a very good score. So there was only one thing on my mind and that was to continue the momentum built in the powerplay. It was a very good wicket for batting and I had a lot of fun playing today’s match. I also enjoyed my performance a lot,” Dube mentioned.
RR keeps its hopes alive after overcoming the table-toppers, CSK’s challenge on Saturday. With their win, four teams are now on 10 points with two games left to play for each team.
