Afghanistan national players Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan on Monday joined IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad camp in the United Arab Emirates.
Both the players were last seen playing in England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) inaugural tournament- The Hundred and have been put under quarantine before they come out to participate in the remaining fixtures of IPL 2021.
Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan are not just professionals, they are family and the team will take complete care of them
Things hasn’t been easy for both players after the events that have folded up in their country after the militant organisation Taliban took over the power in Afghanistan.
An anonymous source said the team management will leave no stone unturned to keep both the players in a good state of mind as he called them a part of their family.
“They are very much in UAE and undergoing quarantine. They are not just professionals, they are family and the team will take complete care of them not just during the tournament but at all times. The management will ensure they are in the best frame of mind and perform to the best of their ability,” the source told news agency ANI.
Mohammad Nabi was appointed Afghanistan captain after Rashid Khan stepped down
On Thursday (September 9), minutes after Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announce an 18-member squad for the T20 World Cup and named Rashid Khan as the captain of it, the leg-spinner immediately stepped down from the role while mentioning that his consent wasn’t sought during the squad selection.
After Rashid resigned, ACB named all-rounder Nabi as the team’s leader for the mega event.
Sunrisers Hyderabad are currently placed on the bottom of the points table, they have only managed to defeat Punjab Kings in the first phase of the tournament and that was something that forced the team management to change their captaincy role.
New Zealand’s Kane Williamson who led the team in David Warner’s absence during the 2018 IPL season was reinstated in the captain’s role. SRH will resume their campaign against IPL 2021 current table-toppers Delhi Capitals on September 22.
