IPL 2021: Flop XI Of The Tournament

The IPL 2021 has finally come to an end as the tournament had started way back in the month of April, and it has been a big success despite the long break in between the phases. A lot of youngsters had dominated the IPL 2021, which was a rare sight, and the top run-scorers and the top run-getter were all new.

The UAE phase of IPL 2021 involved a lot more entertainment as the games were mostly low scoring thrillers, and it was a forgettable year for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, who finished as the wooden spoon holders. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings emerged as the winners of IPL for the fourth time in history, and it is time to look at the flop XI of the tournament.

Flop XI Of IPL 2021:

Chris Gayle:

Chris Gayle have to be the biggest flop of IPL 2021 as the big man from Carribean never has disappointed in the IPL generally and he has some marvelous numbers to back it up. However, the left-hander could manage just 193 runs in 10 games this season and was left out of the playing XI owing to a consistent run of poor scores.

David Warner:

David Warner will be the second opener in the flop XI of the IPL 2021 and he has been one of the best players in IPL history overall. Over the years, he has been tremendous for the Sunrisers Hyderabad but has failed to produce consistent good starts this season. As a result, he was dropped from the playing XI after having a minimal effect and was also sacked from captaincy.

Suresh Raina:

Suresh Raina is often referred to as Mr IPL, and his records in IPL is staggering. The left hander missed the previous edition of IPL, and he hasn’t been in any sorts of ryhtym with the bat. However, he scored a fifty in the first game in IPL 2021, and the curve has gone down completely. He was in the sidelines for the last few games this season and Robin Uthappa had taken his place in the side.

Eoin Morgan:

Eoin Morgan is one of the vastly experienced T20 players in the world and his captaincy certainly was one of the most impressive ones this year for the KKR side. Morgan could manage just 133 runs in 17 games this season and he had to play an extra batter to compensate himself in the playing XI. Morgan as a batsman, has failed to produce the expected impact to the side.

MS Dhoni(C, WK):

MS Dhoni will be the captain of the side in the flop XI of IPL 2021 and despite his age wearing out, he still has been very sharp behind the wickets and his captaincy tactics has looked a lot mature. However, he needs to contribute a lot more with the bat and 114 runs in 16 games is certainly not going to enough as a batsman in the side.

Hardik Pandya:

Hardik Pandya was a huge disappointment for the Mumbai Indians this season and now Mumbai Indians would think twice before retaining him ahead of mega auction. The all rounder hasn’t been bowling and he hasnt effective with the bat as well with just 127 runs in 12 games this season. He will be a big miss if he’s not going to bowl.

Krunal Pandya:

Krunal Pandya seemed to have lost the impact he can have to the Mumbai Indians side and he looked very ordinary with the bat this season. He scored just 143 runs in 13 games alongside picking up just 5 wickets in the entire tournament. The left-hand all-rounder is not in the T20 Worldcup squad, and he needs to reasses himself.

Sam Curran:

Sam Curran lost his place in the Chennai Super Kings squad after having not performed well and he was ruled out of IPL 2021 with an injury later. In the few games he played, Curran managed just 56 runs in 9 games and his wickets tally had gone down to 9 wickets in 9 game which is way low for a quality all rounder like him.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar:

Bhuvneshwar Kumar looked very less potent in this IPL edition in UAE as well as in India and it has been one of the reasons for Sunrisers Hyderabad losing out on playoffs spot. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has  been missing his wicket taking abilities in the powerplay and picked  up just 6 wickets in 11 games this season which is very poor for an Indian international bowler.

Ravi Ashwin:

Ravi Ashwin was recently named in the Indian squad for the T20 Worldcup, and he has made a comeback into the limited-overs setup after a long gap. Ashwin’s main strength is to stay one step ahead of the opponents and he hasnt been deceiving the batsmen which is one of his drawbacks. He picked up just 7 wickets in 13 games.

Mohammad Siraj:

Mohammad Siraj was expected to be a star in the making this year for RCB, especially with his ability to swing the ball upfront. Siraj had a good first phase of IPL 2021 but couldn’t replicate his performances to the second half as well, which hasn’t happened. He picked up 11 wickets in 15 games and struggled a lot in the UAE phase of IPL 2021.
