Rajasthan Royals Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara pointed out that South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris hasn’t performed well enough for the team in the second leg of IPL 2021.

Rajasthan Royals lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore by seven wickets on Wednesday in Dubai which marks their third loss in a row after starting the UAE leg with a victory against Punjab Kings in a thriller match.

Although Rajasthan Royals openers Evin Lewis (58) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (31) gave the team a fabulous start with quick runs as their partnership stretched for 77 before the Indian player departed in the ninth over.

Lewis, who pummelled five fours and three sixes to boost the team’s total, got a top edge off RCB debutant George Garton’s slower delivery as it flew high in the air to land safely in the hands of wicket-keeper KS Bharat.

Chris Morris yielded 50 runs from four overs against RCB

Royals batting collapsed poignantly as the team could add only 58 runs in the last 10 overs and lost eight wickets in that period to post a below-par score of 149/9 in the first innings.

Chris Morris, who claimed 14 wickets from seven matches in the first leg of IPL 2021, hasn’t picked a single wicket after the tournament restarted on September 19. The South African all-rounder conceded 50 runs from his four-spell and was hammered for 22 runs by Glenn Maxwell in his final over.

Sangakkara hinted that Morris might be dropped from the team in the next match because of not staying up to the expectations from the team.

“Chris Morris did brilliantly for us in the first half and he has not done the job as we would have liked him to do in the second half. He knows that and we know that. 50 runs from four overs, his last over was the last throw of the dice to try and get a wicket,” Sangakkara said during a virtual post-match press conference.

“We were well out of the game at that point. He has done well for us in certain parts and whoever we think of playing next will be the best person to come into the side to play against the opposition,” he added.

Rajasthan Royals are in the seventh position with eight points and will have to win their remaining three games if they still want to contend for a playoff spot.
