IPL 2021: Rating Top 10 All-Rounders From The 14th Season

The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will resume in the United Arab Emirates from mid-September. Earlier this year, the 14th season of the cash-rich league was suspended for an indefinite period of time after multiple Covid positive cased rocked as many as four franchises.

But before the tournament got suspended, we saw all-rounders from each of the eight franchises lit up the competition with their multi-dimensional skills.

On that note, let us rate the top-10 all-rounders from IPL 2021 thus far:

Krunal Pandya (Mumbai Indians) – 2/10

Krunal Pandya was extremely poor with the ball during the India leg of IPL 2021 barring the one fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders, where he notched up figures of 1/13 in four overs.

Overall, he managed just 3 wickets in 6 innings at an average of 42.66 and an economy rate of 7.52.

He was promoted to the No.4 spot after Ishan Kishan was dropped from the playing 11. In 7 innings, he managed 100 runs at an average of 16.66 and a strike rate of 131.57.

Marcus Stoinis (Delhi Capitals) – 4/10

Marcus Stoinis played a few handy cameos down the order for the Delhi Capitals during the India leg of IPL 2021. His unbeaten knock of 27* (13) helped the Capitals chase down 195 against the Punjab Kings.

Overall, the right-handed batted six times and scored 71 runs at a strike rate of 144.89.

As far as bowling is concerned,  he didn’t have much to do as he sent down just 10 overs during the course of eight matches,  in which he claimed 2 wickets but went at 10.90 rpo.

Pat Cummins (Kolkata Knight Riders) – 5/10

Pat Cummins may not have lit up the IPL with his primary skill but he has been a decent performer with both bat and ball for KKR since his return to the franchise last year.

In seven games this season, Cummins smashed 93 runs at a strike rate of 166.07 which includes a whirlwind and near match-winning 66* against the Chennai Super Kings.

Besides that, Cummins also chipped in with 9 wickets in 7 innings at an average of 26.33.

Kyle Jamieson (Royal Challengers Bangalore) – 5/10

Kyle Jamieson fared decently for someone who was playing for the first time in India. In 7 innings, Jamieson claimed 9 wickets at an average of 24.55, albeit at an expensive economy rate of 9.20.

He also chipped in with the bat and scored 59 runs in 5 innings lower down the order at a strike rate of 143.90.

Chris Morris (Rajasthan Royals) – 7/10

The most expensive overseas recruit, Chris Morris had a poor start to his IPL 2021 campaign But, the veteran all-rounder redeemed himself really well as the season progressed.

The Proteas all-rounder smashed a whirlwind 18-ball 36* against the Delhi Capitals to pull his teams from the brink to a thrilling three-wicket win.

He was equally brilliant with the ball, claiming 14 wickets in 7 innings at an average of 16 and an economy rate of 8.61 with his best performance (4/23) coming against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Sam Curran (Chennai Super Kings) – 6/10

Sam Curran was in the midst of yet another brilliant season for the Chennai Super Kings before the IPL got suspended due to Covid.

In 7 games, the left-arm seam-bowling all-rounder claimed 9 wickets at 24.11 which also includes the prized scalp of Dre Russ- who was bowled behind his arse- which significantly tilted the game in CSK’s favor.

Besides claiming timely wickets, Sam Curran also smashed 58 crucial runs at a strike rate of 208.

Andre Russell (Kolkata Knight Riders) – 7/10

After a poor season last year, Andre Russell showed glimpses of his precocious all-round talent this season. However, those glimpses were also followed by disappointments.

Russell claimed a five-wicket-haul (5/15 in 2 overs) against the Mumbai Indians but u the same game, he failed to take KKR past the finishing line as he scored a painstaking 15-ball 9.

He was taken to the cleaners by AB de Villiers at the death in one of the games.

During the match against CSK, Russell played one of the most belligerent knocks one has ever seen. The swashbuckler smashed a breathtaking 22-ball 54- an innings which included three fours and six sixes- but he couldn’t take his team past the finishing line again; the same was the case against RCB where he scored a 20-ball 31.

Overall, Dre Russ scored 163 runs in 7 outings at a strike rate of 155.23 besides claiming 7 wickets at 16.28.

Moeen Ali (Chennai Super Kings) – 9/10

They say that players thrive under the leadership of MS Dhoni and it was proved to the hilt yet again this IPL season with enigmatic all-rounder Moeen Ali finally showcasing what an amazing talent he is.

MSD’s punt of promoting Moeen Ali to the No.3 slot proved to be a masterstroke as the English all-rounder made the most of the opportunity and proceeded to unleash his full repertoire of sumptuous strokeplay.

Batting at No.3, Ali smashed 206 runs in six outings at an average of 34.33 and a blistering strike rate of 157.25.

He also claimed five wickets in as many innings at an average of 14.80 and an economy rate of 6.16.

Kieron Pollard (Mumbai Indians) – 10/10

Is there a better all-rounder in T20 cricket at the moment than Kieron Pollard?

Well! We were forced to ask this question once again this IPL as the Caribbean superstar once again established his authority on the cash-rich league with his consistent and, sometimes, outrageous performances.

His unbeaten knock of 35 off 22 balls on a sluggish Chennai track against SRH proved to be the difference between the two sides as MI won the game by 13 runs.

His best performance,  however, came against Chennai Super Kings where he claimed two crucial wickets for 12 runs in 2 overs before smashing an outrageous,  unreal, mind-boggling 34-ball 87*- an innings which comprised of 6 fours and 8 sixes-to help MI chase down 218.

Overall,  Pollard smashed 168 runs in 7 innings at a strike rate of 171.42 besides claiming 3 wickets in 7.1 overs at an average of 18.

Ravindra Jadeja (Chennai Super Kings) – 10/10

That Ravindra Jadeja is a true epitome of a multi-dimensional cricketer was once again proved to the hilt during IPL 2021.

The champion all-rounder excelled in all three departments to the hilt in almost every game that he played.

Outrageous catches? Check. Freak run-outs? Check. Whirlwind Death over batting? Check. Crucial wickets in the middle overs? Check. Check.

Jadeja did it all. And, his best performance came against RCB where he smashed a whirlwind 28-ball 62*-which included 37 runs in the final over bowled by Harshal Patel- besides claiming the wickets of Washington Sundar, Glenn Maxwell, and AB de Villiers, and if that wasn’t enough, he also effected a brilliant run out of Dan Christian.

Overall, Jadeja scored 131 runs in 6 outings at a strike rate of 161.72 besides claiming 6 wickets at 26.83 at an economy rate of 6.70.
