Former Australian player Brad Hogg appreciated Delhi Capitals batsman Shreyas Iyer for his return to IPL from injury.
Iyer suffered a shoulder injury while fielding in an ODI match against England in March and subsequently, he had to undergo shoulder surgery.
Iyer returned to Delhi Capitals after missing the first half of the tournament scored 47 runs from 41 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Dubai.
Brad Hogg Backs Shreyas Iyer To Become India’s Captain In Future:
The Mumbai batsman in his post-match press conference said that he wasn’t satisfied with his batting. Hogg feels Iyer will be the future leader of the Indian cricket team.
“He’s come back from injury, he is under a lot of pressure, he did not get picked in the main T20 squad for India. The one thing that I saw in the press conference was that I’m thinking this guy could be a future leader for India,” Hogg said on his YouTube channel.
“It was just the way that he went about the processes with his own game. He does not get too far ahead of himself. He’s got his routines and processes that he goes through and he does not go away from that,” he said.
In Iyer’s absence, Pant led the team in eight matches and won six games to lead the charts.
Iyer, who led the franchise to IPL 2020 final, made himself available after getting clearance from the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to play IPL.
However, Delhi Capitals announced that Pant will remain as the captain for the rest of the season. Iyer said that Pant is really leading the team well and he is fine with the team’s decision.
“That’s why Delhi Capitals have been at the top of the ladder, because of players like Iyer, who know their role in the team, being a team man and not being upset that Pant is continuing the captaincy role after he had it previously. He puts his team first,” Hogg said.
Delhi Capitals will play Rajasthan Royals in their next game on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
