Mumbai Indians (MI) batsman Suryakumar Yadav was excited about the prospect of playing for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The 30-year-old was out of form in the UAE leg before turning up for the final game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in style with a stunning 82 off 40 balls.

Although MI failed to qualify for the playoffs courtesy of a weaker net run rate when compared to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Indian fans will be happy with Suryakumar and Ishan Kishan‘s form heading into the T20 World Cup.

It is a big tournament (T20 World Cup). We don’t change anything. The process, routine all remain the same. Really looking forward to it,” Suryakumar said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Going into the final league match, MI needed to win by at least 170 runs to make it to the playoffs. They started out with great intent to achieve the same courtesy of Kishan’s brilliant 84 off just 32 balls. They lost their way in the middle as SRH slowly pulled things back.

Suryakumar Yadav then launched a late assault and got himself into top shape with 82 off 40 balls including thirteen fours and three maximums. MI ended with 235 on the board but needed to blow away SRH below 65. It wasn’t to be but the defending champions managed to win by 42 runs eventually.

At the end of the day, the show must go on and you got to keep smiling whatever happens. We had nothing to lose. We had a target and we just kept running behind it. The pitch was good. Happy to be on the winning side,” Suryakumar added.
