IPL 2021: It Was The Perfect Game For Us To Increase Our Net Run Rate - MI Skipper Rohit Sharma
Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma was ecstatic after his team got their act together and stomped Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sharjah Stadium on Tuesday. The 8-wicket victory kept their hopes of making it to the playoffs alive.
Rohit opted to bowl first on a slow Sharjah track and his bowlers responded in style. They blew away the Rajasthan batting lineup for 90 which was comfortably chased in the end with as many as 70 balls to spare. It’s the fifth biggest victory in terms of balls remaining in the IPL history.
“We had to come here and do what we had to do, which was to get the two points… It was a chance to improve our run rate as well. We got off to a flier, and we said there is a chance for us to up the run rate. It was the perfect game for us to do that,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
“All the bowlers came together and used the conditions well” – Rohit Sharma
The MI skipper praised his bowlers and the brutal innings of Ishan Kishan. Nathan Coulter-Nile and James Neesham were the pick of the bowlers, ending up with stunning figures of 4/14 and 3/12 respectively. Kishan then completed the formalities with a stunning 25-ball 50.
“Kishan is playing after a couple of games, so we wanted him to take his time. I didn’t say anything to him [after he played a maiden]. All we wanted for him was to play his shots, which is what he did.”
“When you are under the radar, it is important to do your job. We have been doing well and preparing well. All the bowlers came together and used the conditions well,” Rohit further added.
Mumbai Indians will play against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their final game on October 8, Friday. As for Rajasthan, they will be up against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) where they’ll need a miracle to qualify.
