Decorated former all-rounder Shane Watson retired from international cricket after accomplishing plenty for Australia. Shane Watson fared equally well in the IPL as he was part of the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings’ title victories in 2008 and 2018, respectively. Having played his last IPL season in 2020, the Queensland-born wants Chennai to lift their fourth trophy this year.

Shane Watson made an impact straight away after joining Chennai Super Kings in 2018 following a forgettable stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore for two years. The seam-bowling all-rounder finished with 555 runs in 15 matches in 2018, including a whirlwind hundred in the final. Watson came close the next year in sealing another title for the Super Kings against the Mumbai Indians; however, his battle-hardened knock was not enough.

Shane Watson, who won the player of the tournament awards in 2008 and 2013, took to his official Instagram handle and wished Chennai Super Kings good luck for their first match of IPL 2021 opener. The 39-year old uploaded his photos with captain MS Dhoni, Faf Du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, and Ambati Rayudu. The yellow army will take on the Delhi Capitals in their season opener at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.

Chennai Super Kings endured a forgettable IPL 2020 in the UAE as it became the first edition that they did not reach the playoffs. The Super Kings struggled with their batting for most part of the competition. The likes of Shane Watson and MS Dhoni were also not at their best. With Suresh Raina, who missed IPL 2020, back for this year’s season, the cricketing fraternity can expect them to be much more competitive. The three-time champions bought Cheteshwar Pujara, Moeen Ali, and Krishnappa Gowtham in the IPL 2021 auction.
