ToggleMI vs KKR- Prediction, Who Will Win The Match Between Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders? Mumbai Indians lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders in the 34th match of IPL 2021 on Thursday at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.
Mumbai Indians played their first game of the second leg of IPL 2021 against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. MI missed the services of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya dearly as they lost the game by 20 runs.
Kieron Pollard led the team in Rohit’s absence. Mumbai Indians started brilliantly with the ball as Trent Boult and Adam Milne reduced CSK to 24 for 4 inside powerplay. Rahul Chahar and Bumrah kept things tight in the middle overs but Ruturaj Gaikwad held the fort at one end.
He kept the scoreboard ticking and didn’t allow MI to bundle CSK out on a small total. He stitched valuable partnerships with Ravindra Jadeja (26 off 33) and Dwayne Bravo (23 off 8) to bring CSK back into the contest. The last two overs conceded 39 runs as Bumrah and Boult were smashed all across the park. Boult, who gave just 11 runs in his first three overs, finished his figures with 2 for 35 runs in 4 overs. Bumrah and Milne also picked two wickets each. Rahul Chahar, who picked the most wickets for MI in the first leg, couldn’t pick a wicket in the match. MI, as a result, needed 157 to win the game.
Quinton de Kock and Anmolpreet Singh played some great shots before getting back to the pavilion. De Kock looked dangerous for his 12-ball 17 but unfortunately got out to a leg before off Deepak Chahar. Suryakumar Yadav (3 off 7) and Ishan Kishan (11 off 10) also got out cheaply.
Saurabh Tiwari held the fort at one end but wickets kept falling at the other. Pollard’s (15 off 14) wicket in the 14 over of the innings perhaps ended all hopes for MI. Saurabh Tiwari stayed unbeaten at 50 off 40 but MI fell 20 runs short of the target. MI are currently fourth at the points table with 4 wins in 4 matches. They would be desperate to win their next game against KKR and boost their position on the table.
Though it won’t be easy to beat a high-flying KKR, who are coming into the game on the back of a nine-wicket win against Royal Challengers Bangalore. KKR were right on the mark from the start of the match. Prasidh Krishna and Lockie Ferguson made a great start in the powerplay, while Russell, Narine and Chakravarthy kept it tight in the middle overs. Krishna and Ferguson removed both RCB’s openers inside powerplay to leave RCB in trouble at 41 for 2 after 6 overs.
Andre Russell bowled Ab de Villiers in the 9th over to leave KKR on the backfoot. Chakravarthy then removed Maxwell, Hasaranga and Sachin Baby and broke the back of RCB. The Red Army, eventually, were bundled out for just 92 runs in the first innings.
Varun Chakravarthy and Andre Russell both finished with three wickets each, while Ferguson and Krishna picked 2 and 1 wicket respectively.
KKR openers, Shubman Gill and debutant Venkatesh Iyer came into the middle with a positive frame of mind. The duo didn’t hold back and played their shots with ease. Gill smashed 6 fours and 1 sixes before getting out on 48 off 34 balls.
KKR, by that time, had scored 82 runs. Venkatesh Iyer remained unbeaten on 41 off 27 and helped KKR chase down the target in just 10 overs. KKR claimed their third win of the tournament but still find themselves at sixth on the table. Ahead of the game against MI, they would be keen to continue the winning momentum and strengthen their position in the league.
