Sensible Decision By The BCCI To Postpone IPL 2021: Michael Vaughan

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has been amongst the many to back BCCI’s decision to call off the IPL with immediate effect. Given the COVID-19 virus had penetrated the secure bubble of the lucrative T20 league, a handful of positive cases had emerged. Michael Vaughan believes that the BCCI hardly had any other choice and labelled it as a sensible decision.

The crisis began unfolding when on Monday, Kolkata Knight Riders’ official Twitter handle announced that Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier have tested positive for COVID-19. It forced the authorities to postpone their clash that same day against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Ahmedabad. It also emerged that Chennai Super Kings’ contingents had also contracted the virus that is rampantly cutting through India.

Kolkata Knight Riders immediately quarantined the duo, with the likes of Brendon McCullum and Pat Cummins reportedly satisfied with the measures taken. On Tuesday, two more positive cases emerged as SunRisers Hyderabad’s Wriddhiman Saha and Delhi Capitals’ Amit Mishra also contracted the disease. Hence, the BCCI had no choice but to postpone the tournament indefinitely since the bubble looks vulnerable.

Earlier, they had planned to shift the entire leg in Mumbai; however, the current scenario seems not to facilitate it either. The last completed match took place on Sunday between the Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad. The Capitals won the clash comprehensively as Shikhar Dhawan’s sublime half-century scripted a seven-wicket victory and lifted his side to the top of the table as they had accumulated 12 points with six wins.

Michael Vaughan took to his official Twitter handle, saying that with the cases starting to appear within the bubble, BCCI’s decision to postpone the tournament seems sensible. Michael Vaughan also hopes for everyone to stay safe in India and all the overseas players to find their way back to the families safely.
