IPL 2021: Twitter Reacts As KS Bharat Steals The Show With A Last-Ball Six As RCB Beat DC By 7 Wickets
Updated - 09 Oct 2021, 01:42 AM
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Srikar Bharat stunned Delhi Capitals (DC) by scoring a six off the final ball to take his side over the line. Five runs were needed when Bharat took on Avesh Khan and finished the match with a six over long-on.
Although the match was inconsequential, the two teams played excellent T20 cricket all around. Starting off, Delhi was put in to bat first and they started brilliantly. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw put on an 88-run opening stand in the first ten overs.
Once Dhawan fell, the run-scoring became tougher and the RCB spinners applied the middle overs chokehold. Shaw fell soon and Rishabh Pant also went early. Shimron Hetmyer’s late cameo, however, ensured Delhi end up with a competitive total of 164 on the board.
It wasn’t an easy track to bat on and the Royal Challengers needed a good start. They couldn’t get it though, as they were dealt a double blow by Anrich Nortje inside the first three overs. He removed both Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli to put DC in the driver’s seat.
AB de Villiers was promoted up the order and he hit a couple of lusty blows. He soon fell to Axar Patel and RCB was 55/3 in the 10th over. The in-form batsman Glenn Maxwell joined Srikar Bharat at the crease and the duo started rebuilding the innings.
They accelerated in the middle overs and took the side closer to the total. Both reached their respective fifties and RCB needed 15 runs from the final over bowled by Avesh. The 24-year-old pacer bowled excellently, conceding just 10 in the first five balls.
With 5 needed off the last ball, Avesh bowled a juicy full toss that was smashed over long-on’s head by Bharat to seal the stunning victory for the Bangalore franchise. It was their ninth win of the season and they finished the group stage in third place.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the last-over finish between DC and RCB:

Kona Srikar Bharat, you little beauty!! 78*(52). Came to bat 1st over and stays till the end to see RCB through. Terribly sloppy effort from DC on the field. Spare a thought for Nortje though. 4-0-24-2. 2 powerplay wickets + 4 runs off the 19th. He has been a class apart 2nd leg.

KS Bharat has shown that there is plenty of top-order value in him waiting to be unlocked. Potential like Gaikwad if he can get a full season at the top of the order. But you also need a batting unit like that of CSK/RCB for their inns building approach to work.#IPL2021 #RCBvDC

Great effort by #RCB to beat table toppers #DC in their last league match. Doesn’t alter position in points table, but gives good momentum heading into play-offs
