Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Srikar Bharat stunned Delhi Capitals (DC) by scoring a six off the final ball to take his side over the line. Five runs were needed when Bharat took on Avesh Khan and finished the match with a six over long-on.

Although the match was inconsequential, the two teams played excellent T20 cricket all around. Starting off, Delhi was put in to bat first and they started brilliantly. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw put on an 88-run opening stand in the first ten overs.

Once Dhawan fell, the run-scoring became tougher and the RCB spinners applied the middle overs chokehold. Shaw fell soon and Rishabh Pant also went early. Shimron Hetmyer’s late cameo, however, ensured Delhi end up with a competitive total of 164 on the board.

It wasn’t an easy track to bat on and the Royal Challengers needed a good start. They couldn’t get it though, as they were dealt a double blow by Anrich Nortje inside the first three overs. He removed both Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli to put DC in the driver’s seat.

AB de Villiers was promoted up the order and he hit a couple of lusty blows. He soon fell to Axar Patel and RCB was 55/3 in the 10th over. The in-form batsman Glenn Maxwell joined Srikar Bharat at the crease and the duo started rebuilding the innings.

They accelerated in the middle overs and took the side closer to the total. Both reached their respective fifties and RCB needed 15 runs from the final over bowled by Avesh. The 24-year-old pacer bowled excellently, conceding just 10 in the first five balls.

With 5 needed off the last ball, Avesh bowled a juicy full toss that was smashed over long-on’s head by Bharat to seal the stunning victory for the Bangalore franchise. It was their ninth win of the season and they finished the group stage in third place.
