Harbhajan Singh, a former Mumbai Indians spinner, believes the franchise should release Kieron Pollard ahead of the IPL 2023 auction.
Kieron Pollard was retained by the Mumbai Indians for INR 6 crores ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, although he only managed 144 runs for the team at an average of 14.40 and a strike rate of 107.46.

Notably, the West Indies star was purchased by the five-time IPL champion Mumbai Indians back in 2010. He has now become an important member of the team, but his play last year was terrible. Pollard scored only 144 runs for the team last year at an average of 14.40 and a strike rate of 107.46. He was retained by MI for INR 6 crores prior to the IPL 2022 auction.

Mumbai Indians had a terrible IPL 2022 season, finishing last in the standings with just four victories in their 14 games. The five-time IPL champions released Quinton de Kock and Trent Boult in favor of keeping Pollard, which cost them a whopping INR 6 crore.

“It is going to be a tough decision for the side”: Harbhajan Singh

All Ten IPL clubs must submit their final retention list by November 15, and Harbhajan Singh believes that if MI releases Pollard, it will be a difficult decision for the franchise.

“Well, I believe it will be extremely tough for the Mumbai Indians to release Kieron Pollard. He’s been there for a long time. But there are times when you have to make some difficult decisions, and this could be one of them. They must move forward and form a team for the next 4-5 years in order to find someone who can replace Pollard ” Harbhajan Singh revealed this on the Star Sports show ‘Game Plan – IPL Retention Special.’

The franchises’ final list of retained players must be submitted by November 15 as per a deadline established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This time, each team is allowed to keep up to 15 players and must release the other 10. Last year, however, the maximum number of players on a squad was 25, while the minimum was 18.
