Rajasthan Royals (RR) won the toss & elected to bat first against Gujarat Titans (GT). RR had a topsy-turvy start to their powerplay overs as they scored 50 runs but lost 2 wickets. In the 6th over there was massive confusion between Sanju Samson & Yashasvi Jaiswal as the bowler Rashid Khan ran out Yashasvi Jaiswal at the non-striker’s end. Rashid Khan was seen getting ample assistance from the track.

Sanju Samson was quite aggressive in his approach. Josh Little got rid of dangerous-looking Sanju Samson in the 7th over as Samson played a shot too many. It seemed as if RR’s batters were in a hurry to score runs despite the track being greenish.

Hardik Pandya was seen marshaling his troops and didn’t panic even when he was taken to the cleaners as he conceded 22 runs in his 2 overs but most importantly took the massive wicket of swashbuckling batter Jos Buttler.

At the end of 7 overs, RR’s score was 61-3. Astonishingly Ravichandran Ashwin came to bat at the No.5 position ahead of Shimron Hetmyer. Rashid Khan was bowling the 8th over, the batters weren’t able to pick the line & length.

On the last delivery of the over, Rashid Khan bowled a googly to Ravichandran Ashwin as the veteran completely missed it and his off-stump was rattled. Before the dismissal, it looked as if Rashid Khan was playing with the mind of Ashwin as he wasn’t able to time the ball properly. RR’s score at 8 overs was 63-4 and Ashwin was dismissed on 2 runs in 6 balls.

Crucial Phase for RR

RR will have to make sure that they post a score in excess of 130 which would give themselves a chance in the match. It would be interesting what would be the approach of Shimron Hetmyer as he would be tested against Rashid Khan & Noor Ahmad.

GT on the other side are looking like a completely different unit. The role of Mohammed Shami would be quite decisive as Hardik would be considering bringing him for an over before the death overs. We can’t rule out the possibility that the pitch would deteriorate during GT’s run chase.
