Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were asked to bat first by Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson. LSG’s openers KL Rahul & Kyle Mayers couldn’t dictate the terms in the power-play overs. LSG scored 37 runs for the loss of no wickets as the destructive batter Kyle Mayers was seen struggling.

The duo looked in two minds whether to attack or defend. Kyle Mayers should have played his natural aggressive game rather than getting into the shell. In the 11th over, it looked as if KL Rahul checked his shot against the pacer Jason Holder at long-on but couldn’t clear the fielder as KL Rahul was dismissed on 39 runs in 32 balls.

Surprisingly, Ayush Badoni got a promotion to no.3 position but couldn’t make an impact and got out by playing a bizarre shot. The shrewd leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was taken to the cleaners as he conceded 36 runs in his 3 overs.

At the end of 13 overs, LSG’s score was 98-2. Ravichandran Ashwin was bowling the 14th over, on the 5th delivery of the over, Ravichandran Ashwin went around the wicket to Kyle Mayers as Mayers anticipated the ball to turn towards off-stump but the ball came in and knocked over his stumps. Kyle Mayers was dismissed on 51 runs in 42 balls as he struck 4 fours and 3 sixes and was looking ominous.

Ashwin’s decision to go around the wicket did wonders, before that dismissal he had got rid of Deepak Hooda in the same over. All of a sudden LSG’s score at 13.5 overs was 104-4 and now would be aiming to score at least 150 to give themselves a chance.

Critical Phase for LSG

It won’t be wrong to say that the duo Nicholas Pooran & Marcus Stoinis have come at the perfect time. We witnessed how the duo unleashed an attack on RCB’s bowling lineup. It would be interesting to see how Nicholas Pooran fares in this contest.

RR skipper Sanju Samson would be considering bringing back Jason Holder for an over as the lanky pacer can frustrate the batters with his variations. RR would be aware of the fact that the pitch may deteriorate during the run chase as scores around 160 have been defended at this venue.
